Liverpool’s Andy Robertson says it is always an interesting discussion with ahead of international breaks, but the Reds boss is supportive of his endeavours with his country.

It is set to be a very busy end to the season for Liverpool, with the possibility of a quadruple still on the table, and Robertson is going to be a big part of their remaining fixtures.

Klopp might not have been thrilled with the left-back heading to play in a friendly for Scotland in Austria on Tuesday, but Robertson says the German supports the fact he wants to play for his country.

The Scot knows he has to be sensible on international duty, but expects to return to his club fresh and raring to go when they host on Saturday in the Premier League.

‘It is a discussion, of course it is, it is always interesting,’ said Robertson. ‘The manager of Liverpool supports the boys who go away on international duty, he knows how important it is for all of us.

‘He wants us to be sensible of course, but he knows how important it is to us, just like every Liverpool game, and we always make ourselves available for them. He will probably be happy that I have only played one game and not two.

‘But I will go down to Liverpool fresh and good to go for the run-in and that is the most important thing for him and the most important thing for the club. Hopefully I will get another cap tomorrow and that is the most important thing for Scotland.’

Robertson is the Scotland captain and was disappointed to miss the draw with Poland on Thursday through illness, but is looking forward to take on Austria on Tuesday evening.
