Anthony Martial’s loan spell at Sevilla from is not going particularly well and the La Liga side have no intention of trying to make the deal permanent in the summer.

The 26-year-old moved to Spain at the end of the January transfer window in a loan move until the end of the season.

It looked an exciting move for the forward who had been largely frozen out at United and for the club, with an unlikely title challenge in La Liga on the cards.

However, it has not worked out brilliantly, with the Frenchman making just six La Liga appearances so far and failing to score a league goal.

He has scored just once since arriving at Sevilla, in a 3-1 Europa League win over Dynamo Zagreb, but he could do little to stop them exiting the competition at the hands of West Ham.

Martial did suffer an injury in February which kept him out for nearly three weeks, but he has not been able to discover his best form when fit and Sevilla are not bothered about keeping him beyond his current deal.

Spanish publication Marca report that the move has gone from ‘bad to worse’ and that Sevilla will not pursue the possibility of Martial staying with them next season.

The France international is under contract at Old Trafford until 2024 and his future at the club will depend on the opinion of the new manager who takes over in the summer.

There is uncertainty over Martial and Marcus Rashford being at the club next season, while Edinson Cavani is set to leave, meaning whoever takes charge of the Red Devils will have some big decisions to make over the club’s front line.

Martial has scored 79 goals in 269 games for Manchester United since joining from Monaco in 2015 for a fee which could have totaled £58m.
