and have both enquired about the possibility of signing Zenit midfielder Wendel this summer, but Brazilian club Flamengo appear to be best-placed to snap him up.

The 24-year-old is looking for a move away from Zenit after and UEFA suspended Russian clubs from competition and he is looking to come to an agreement with them on his exit.

Brazilian publication report that both Arsenal and West Ham have made contact over a possible switch, but also state that Flamengo are confident of getting a deal done.

The midfielder started his career with Fulminense and quickly earned a move to Europe with Sporting where he won the Portuguese title in 2021.

Zenit brought him to Russia the same year for £17m and he has won the Russian league since his arrival, but he does not look likely to see out the contract he signed which runs till 2025.

The midfielder is yet to be capped by the Brazil senior team, but has played 12 times for the Under-23 side.

West Ham are enduring something of a frustrating transfer window so far, with big moves difficult to come by.

They have signed Nayef Aguerd from Rennes and Alphonse Areola from PSG, but have failed so far in moves for the lies of Armando Broja and Jesse Lingard.

Arsenal have brought in Fabio Vieira, Gabriel Jesus, Marquinhos and Matt Turner and are now expected to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City as well.

With the Ukrainian keen to play in midfield rather than at left-back, where he was regularly played by Pep Guardiola, his likely arrival may have put the Gunners off moving for Wendel.
