Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall has singled out two stars for praise following Wednesday’s 3-1 semi-final win over Australia.
The Lionesses have reached the final for the first time ever and face a showdown with on Sunday.
Ella Toone handed the European champions a first-half lead and after Sam Kerr levelled it up, goals from Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo secured the victory.
Eidevall has just signed Russo on a free transfer at club level and she will play for the Gunners in the Women’s Super League this season after three years at Manchester United.
The Swedish manager paid tribute to Russo after England’s win over Australia and also lauded Manchester City forward Hemp.
‘Alessia Russo is a great player and she’s a great person and personality,’ Eidevall said.
‘I think when you see her and Lauren Hemp play together, they are not only good with the ball and with their movement, they are so hard working.
‘I think the two hardest working forward players that we have in this World Cup.
‘Together they never give up. They hunt down every ball down to the last inch and it paid off two games in a row.’
Russo will look to make her Arsenal debut on October 1 when the Gunners host Liverpool on the first matchday of the new WSL season.
