Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior has welcomed the possible arrival of Jurrien Timber at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners expect to complete a deal to sign and Netherlands defender Timber in the coming weeks.
Arsenal’s first bid for the 22-year-old was rejected but they .
While that is still believed to be short of Ajax’s asking price, there is a belief that the clubs will meet in the middle as Timber has his heart set on a move to north London.
Timber, who has made 121 appearances for Ajax and earned 15 caps for the Netherlands, agreed personal terms with Arsenal last week and is set to sign a five-year contract with the Gunners.
The Dutchman’s arrival at the Emirates will provide even more competition to Kiwior, who has played just eight games for Arsenal since a move from Spezia in January.
But the Poland international insists he is not concerned by the extra competition in Mikel Arteta’s squad and wants as many top players to join Arsenal to help the club win trophies.
‘I’m glad there’s going to be more competition,’ Kiwior told Polish outlet when asked about the possibility of incoming signings, before asking the reporter: ‘Who’s coming?’
After being told that it looks like Timber will be heading to the Emirates, Kiwior replied: ‘It’s great that he’s joining.
‘Let the best players play at Arsenal. Let’s win matches and win trophies together.’
Timber could become Arsenal’s second signing of the summer, with the Gunners .
Arteta also intends to welcome West Ham captain Declan Rice to the Emirates though faces competition from his former club Manchester City.
Arsenal came close to winning their first Premier League title since 2004 last season, eventually finishing five points behind Man City.
