have made contact with Paulo Dybala’s representatives as they consider a move for the Argentine free agent as an alternative to Gabriel Jesus, according to reports.

The Gunners have made signing a new frontman their top transfer priority this summer and are looking to secure a world-class attacker regardless of whether they are playing football or not next season.

Talks have been held with both and Jesus, but Arsenal chiefs were said to be .

The Premier League champions have set an asking price of £55million for the Brazilian even though he only has one year left on his contract – a price Arsenal may not be prepared to pay.

, that has seen the Gunners’ hierarchy explore alternatives and one of the first names on their list of backup options is Juventus contract rebel Dybala.

The 28-year-old will leave Turin at the end of the season – and has already been given a tearful farewell – and is currently in the process of deciding his next destination.

Contrary to reports he has chosen to join Inter Milan, Dybala is still exploring his options and would be open to leaving Italy.

Arsenal have spoken with his representatives to find out what personal terms the striker is seeking, with Dybala expected to demand a large salary and big signing-on fee given that he is available for nothing.

A member of Dybala’s entourage has already held meetings in London and Manchester to discuss potential options, and has also held similar talks with clubs in Spain and Italy.

Inter are thought to be the favourites to land the Argentine, while Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham are among the many teams linked with a move.

Arsenal will certainly face stiff competition for Dybala but he is only one of several options being looked at, with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jonathan David and Darwin Nunez also on their radar.
