have made a €7m bid for Lille winger Edon Zhegrova, according to reports in his homeland of Kosovo.
The 23-year-old, who joined Lille from Basel in January, has ‘impressed’ Arsenal scouts in his six months in northern France, according to football commentator . Saluku insist that the Gunners have already made an opening bid for his compatriot.
Born in Germany after his family fled the Kosovo war, Zhegrova came through various youth academies in Belgium as a junior. After leaving Kosovan capital club Prishtina in 2015, he moved to Standard Liege and Sint-Truiden before eventually joining the prestigious youth ranks at Genk, where players including Kevin de Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois and Kalidou Koulibaly have been trained.
In 2017 he made his senior debut with Genk, going on to score five goals in 27 appearances before being signed by Basel in 2019. After impressing on an initial one-year loan, the move was made permanent in the summer of 2020.
With Basel, Zhegrova managed an impressive 11 goals and 17 assists in 74 matches across all competitions, including building up continental experience in both the Europa League and Europa Conference League.
‘Arsenal has submitted an official offer for 23 year old winger Edon Zhegrova,’ Saliku claimed on Twitter. ‘Player has impressed the english club this year at Lille, after moving from Basel in January for 7m euros.’
Mikel Arteta has already been active in the transfer market this summer, securing the signing of Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus for £45m after the departures of both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang within the past six months.
Fabio Vieira of Porto has also been added to the Gunners’ midfield, while young Brazilian winger Marquinhos has joined from Sao Paolo, while goalkeeper Matt turner has arrived from New England Revolution.
Arsenal are hoping to bounce back from a poor end to last season which saw them narrowly miss out on Champions League football to rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
