Arsenal are once again interested in Antonio Sanabria, almost 10 years on from coming close to signing the striker when he was a teenager.

Now 27 years old, the Paraguay international has enjoyed the best goal-scoring season of his career, netting 12 times in 31 Serie A games for Torino.

The Gunners were interested in him a decade ago when he was in the youth ranks at Barcelona, but he instead moved to Roma and has since spent time at Real Betis, Sporting Gijon and Genoa, before signing for Torino in 2021.

After a quiet couple of seasons in which he scored five and then six league goals, Sanabria has finally hit his stride and fulfilled some of that early promise by notching double-figures during this campaign.

Italian publication report that he has once again alerted the attention of the hierarchy at the Emirates and they tout a £21.6m summer move as a possibility.

The Paraguayan would certainly not be signed as a replacement for first choice striker Gabriel Jesus, but would be seen as additional back-up for the Brazilian as the club return to the Champions League and look to challenge on four fronts next season.

The report suggests that there is interest in the forward in Italy as well, though, with Napoli and AC Milan both thought to be fans of the former Roma man.

Sanabria, who has also been linked with Tottenham in the past, has 29 caps for his country, scoring two goals, so it is fair to say he has never really been prolific until a decent season this time round.

Mikel Arteta knows the squad will need improving this summer, but has spoken confidently about the club’s ability to attract the best players.

‘We are really lucky because when you open the doors of Arsenal and you talk about Arsenal to any player, they want to come,’ Arteta said earlier this month. ‘My experience has been that, regardless of Champions League [football].

‘Champions League helps, because every player wants to be involved in that competition and it’s going to help us, because we are going to have to nail the recruitment, because we know that we are going to have play a different level and the demands are going to be even higher.’
