legend Ray Parlour has urged Mikel Arteta to sign a Premier League midfielder and a new striker in January to boost their title hopes.
The Gunners look set to go into the mid-season break for the sitting top of the Premier League.
Arsenal finished fifth last season but a productive summer transfer window in which Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira arrived at the Emirates has taken the team to another level.
Arteta’s side have only failed to win two of their 13 league games this season but Parlour still believes the squad needs strengthening in January.
The former Gunners midfielder wants Arsenal to revive their interest in Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans and says Arteta should also try to bring a new striker to the Emirates.
Arsenal expressed interest in signing Tielemans last summer and Leicester could look to sell the Belgian midfielder in January as he will be out of contract next summer.
‘January will be important for a lot of clubs, we all know how important that transfer window can be,’ Parlour told . ‘There might be a bit of money there for Mikel Arteta to say, “Right, we need another midfielder”.
‘We need a Youri Tielemans, like when they tried to get him before. And they need a backup striker in case Gabriel Jesus gets injured.
‘I know they’ve got Eddie Nketiah but sometimes you need the extra striker who’s going to get you the goals to win the league.’
Discussing Arsenal’s brilliant start to the 2022-23 season, Parlour added: ‘All I can say if I’m enjoying it, it’s great to watch. Every single fan I’ve spoke to is saying it’s great, it’s fantastic.
‘And a lot of people were questioning Mikel Arteta and whether he was doing the right thing. They were massive decisions he made about [Mesut] Ozil, [Sead] Kolasinac, [Shkodran] Mustafi, [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang.
‘That was his first job he had to do and he did it very well. Now he’s got a team that are all pulling together, everyone’s going the same way.
‘You can see certain players have upped their game as well. Just look at Granit Xhaka’s, he’s been absolutely brilliant this year.’
