are on the lookout for forwards in the summer and Cody Gakpo is the right man according to the former PSV Eindhoven winger Kenneth Perez.

Gakpo has been a revelation in Holland this season, scoring 16 goals and notching 15 assists in 37 appearances for PSV.

Perez, who played for the Dutch club in the late 2000s and now works as a pundit, believes that Gakpo, 22, would fit in well at the Emirates.

‘Arsenal would be a really good club for him,’ Perez told ESPN. ‘This is of course no longer the Arsenal of the past – they are between fifth and tenth place

‘They are still not there, but you just can’t look at league standings. Last year they finished tenth. If they have a good year, they will finish fourth.’

In January, the Gunners let striker go to , which has left Mikel Arteta short of goals.

Despite Alexandre Lacazette’s contribution to team play, the Frenchman has scored only four times in 23 league appearances for Arsenal this season and it is unknown whether he will receive a contract extension in the summer.

Meanwhile Eddie Nketiah’s contract is also up in a few months which means Arsenal have little choice but to enter the market for forward options.

Speaking earlier this month, Arteta described what he is looking for in a striker.

‘He puts the ball in the net, that’s priority number one,’ Arteta told . ‘Goal threat. Any successful team needs enough goal threat in the squad. Without it, you have nothing. You can play good football but you need enough goal threat in the team.

‘The other thing is that he has to complement the other people we have, personally and on the pitch, and for that, we need the right profile.

‘We need a profile where you can exploit his qualities at the same time as the qualities we already have, so we don’t have to transform our way of playing again to adapt to that specific player.

‘He has to have a certain age, a certain level of experience, and he has to be able to come here and play under the pressure of being at Arsenal.’

Whether Arteta’s team qualify for the Champions League or not could prove crucial to their summer plans.
