are targeting a move for centre-back William Saliba, according to reports in France.

The 21-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance for Arsenal since his £27 million move from Saint-Etienne in July 2019.

Saliba joined Marseille on loan last summer and the defender has delivered several impressive performances in Ligue 1 this season.

Saliba also earned a place in France’s squad during the last international break and the defender is aiming for a spot in Didier Deschamps’ squad for their campaign in Qatar later this year.

Arsenal have yet to make a decision over Saliba’s long-term future with Marseille open to the prospect of keeping the 21-year-old for at least another campaign.

But according to L’Equipe, Marseille will face competition from Atletico Madrid, who are interested in signing Saliba if Arsenal look to sell the France international this summer.

Speaking about his future, Saliba made it clear that he is ‘very happy’ at Marseille and is open to the idea of remaining in Ligue 1 in order to boost his chances of making France’s World Cup squad.

‘There is always a chance,’ Saliba said in an interview with Le Parisien last week.

‘I do not hide that I am very happy in Marseille.

‘I have developed, I have passed a milestone. If I make it into France’s squad it’s thanks to Marseille, because there is a lot of visibility.

‘They are a very big club with a lot of pressure, but when you’re good there are a lot of good things that happen to you.

‘We will see in May or June depending on the discussions. Today, my future, I don’t know what it is.’
