Former defender Bacary Sagna says he really wants to see Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin at the Emirates but acknowledges that that is unlikely to happen.

Saint-Maximin is often regarded as one of the Premier League’s best forwards outside of the ‘big six’ clubs having scored 11 goals and made 14 assists since moving to Newcastle in 2019.

While perhaps not the best statistically, it should be noted that the Magpies have been battling relegation throughout the Frenchman’s stay at St. James Park, yet he has time and time again showed his class and great amounts of skill.

‘I really like Allan Saint-Maximin a lot,’ Sagna told .

‘I love the way he plays – with so many tricks and skills – he is a nightmare for any defender. He is a player that can electrify a match, a stadium and make the difference.’

However Arsenal are unlikely to sign Saint-Maximin, having already spent big this summer on attacking players in the form of Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira.

Newcastle would also be unwilling to sell one of their star players, with the club’s new owners looking to build a team capable of challenging at the very top of the table, and Saint-Maximin’s current contract running until 2026.

But that hasn’t stopped Sagna’s praise of the 25-year-old, adding: ‘I would love to see him play for Arsenal because it is a joy to watch him play and I think he would provide a spark and something different in the squad.

‘I would love to see him wearing an Arsenal shirt. He’s one player I really like, but I’m not sure Arsenal could sign him because he would want to play every game.’
