are considering an approach for Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, with pressure mounting on ’s position.
The Bundesliga giants collapsed to a third consecutive defeat with a 3-2 loss against Bochum on Sunday.
That defeat followed losses against Lazio in the and Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
Alonso’s Leverkusen side, who remain unbeaten, now have an eight-point lead at the top.
Though CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said after the defeat that the club retain faith in Tuchel, he is unlikely to survive the summer if the club miss out on the Bundesliga and fail to win the Champions League.
According to the that’s seen Bayern’s board look to the future and they are contemplating an approach for Alonso.
That would be a significant blow for Liverpool, who are said to have made Alonso their first choice to replace Jurgen Klopp.
Alonso, for his part, will not speak to another club until the season is finished and there is no guarantee he would leave Leverkusen.
Since joining the club in 2022, he has lifted them out of the relegation zone, guided them to a top-six finish, and is now on course to win the club’s first ever league title.
Alonso spent three years at Bayern between 2014 and 2017, while he enjoyed five years at Liverpool between 2004 and 2009.
