are out of the race to sign Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer this summer, considering the defender too old to be worth the enormous wages he is asking for.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, so would not cost a new club any money in a transfer fee, but the Germany international wants a serious salary in his next deal.

His wage demands of around £200,000-a-week are why Chelsea have not agreed a new contract with him, and it seems that Bayern have taken that approach as well.

German publication report that unless Rudiger lowers his demands then Bayern will not be making an offer to sign him.

Chelsea are still keen to keep hold of him, but cannot offer new contracts while under the sanctions from the UK government that they find themselves.

When Roman Abramovich sells the club to a new owner – which he is expected to do in the coming weeks – then they may try and negotiate with Rudiger again, but he can already agree a move to a club abroad, so the Blues might run out of time.

Real Madrid and Juventus have been credited with interest in the centre-back, who is approaching his 200th game for Chelsea since joining in 2017.

There is also interest from closer to home with Manchester United and Newcastle United thought to fancy a move for the defender.

. When an appointment will be made to replace interim boss Ralf Rangnick is far from clear.
