The bookmakers have slashed the odds on becoming the next manager to be sacked following ’s to .

The, which arrived just three days after United , has seen Ten Hag’s second campaign in the managerial hot-seat sink to a new low with the .

Before the Magpies emerged from Old Trafford with the famous win tucked safely in their pockets, Ten Hag was 8/1 with SkyBet to be dismissed from his post.

Those odds have now been slashed in light of the Carabao Cup exit, with the former Ajax boss now priced at 11/8 to be the next manager to be given the axe.

Ten Hag is not the favourite to be given his marching orders, however, with Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom topping the list at 5/4 with the Blades yet to register their first win of the season.

The cup defeat was United’s eighth in their 15 matches to date this season in all competitions, the most the club have managed at this stage in the campaign since 1962.

In further unwanted history for this current crop of Red Devils, the weak surrender to City in the derby at the weekend was their fifth defeat in their opening ten Premier League games – two more than they have managed in any previous top-flight season.

‘For me, he is under serious pressure and they have got to have a meeting and see what they do,’ Merson said.

‘He has lost the players, you don’t start getting beat the way they are getting beat.
