full-back Brandon Williams says there is ‘no point’ in him returning to Old Trafford if he is not going to be starting games every week.

Williams, 21, joined Norwich City on a season-long loan last summer and has started 21 Premier League games for the Canaries this season.

The full-back was deemed surplus to requirements by the club with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot ahead of him in the pecking order at right-back and Luke Shaw and vying for the leading role at left-back.

And having had a taste of consistent first-team football at Carrow Road, Williams has suggested he will push for a permanent move away from United this summer if not given assurances over his role in the first-team.

‘I’m playing games now and I love it,’ Williams told .

‘I can’t wait for the weekend so I can get to the stadium. There would be no point in me going back to United and just sitting on the bench. I want to play and feel I’m better equipped for the Premier League after this experience.

‘Whether it’s at United or somewhere else, we’ll deal with that in the summer. But I’ve got a job to do here at Norwich.’

Williams came through United’s academy and his break in the first team came in 2019, when he deputised for Shaw at left-back.

that while he has not yet had the chance to work with the versatile full-back, Ralf Rangnick has been impressed with his development at Norwich, telling him he will be needed back in Manchester.

Ultimately, however, the decision is likely to be with United’s next manager, with Mauricio Pochettino and Erik Ten Hag the leading candidates to become the new permanent manager this summer.
