Brentford will set a £40million asking price for and target David Raya this summer.
The Spaniard has enjoyed a rapid rise since joining the Bees from Blackburn in 2019 for a fee of £3m.
The 27-year-old is widely recognised as one of the best goalkeepers with the ball at his feet and he’s played more passes than both Ederson and Alisson this season.
Raya keeps De Gea out of the and he’s being monitored by Manchester United, who are yet to agree a new deal with the former stopper.
De Gea is out of contract at the end of the season and United want him to agree reduced terms on his current £375,000-a-week deal.
Spurs, by the same token, are planning for the future. Hugo Lloris is out of contract in 2024 and it’s unlikely that the club will offer him a new deal.
Raya’s contract in north-west London also expires in 2024 and he’s rejected two offers from the Bees to extend his deal.
The club are therefore resigned to losing him and will listen to offers this summer, instead of letting him leave for free in 2024.
The Bees, though, will demand around £40m for the Spaniard and will not let him go on the cheap.
It’s hoped a bidding war could be sparked between United and Spurs but Raya will not be short of suitors.
The Spaniard is said to be keen to join a ‘top club’ and will not sign a new deal at Brentford.
