Brighton and former defender Joel Veltman believes Erik ten Hag is the ‘perfect match’ for .
Veltman worked under Ten Hag in Holland and is confident his former boss can bring success back to Old Trafford .
Ten Hag, who is on the verge of winning a third Eredivisie title with Ajax, has and will become United’s fifth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson.
Manchester United have gone , while they are just sixth in the Premier League having played more games than their top-four rivals.
Ten Hag’s arrival may change the mood at the Theatre of Dreams, however, and his former player Veltman has backed United’s appointment.
‘I think it’s a good choice only because he’s tactically really good, and I think that’s the most important thing that they need right now,’ Veltman told .
‘They have the major players, every player showed already they are amazing and can perform well in this league at the highest level, so they just need a gaffer who is like, “Guys, you have to do this, this and this.”
‘He needs time of course, but I think he’s probably the perfect match. Hopefully he [Ten Hag] will make a team of them.
‘Like OK if you go there, I will go here. Like a harmonica they call it in Holland so it’s like not loose ends anymore, so hopefully he will do that next season.’
Veltman has also urged Manchester United’s board and the Old Trafford fans to give Ten Hag time as he is ‘still learning’, despite his success in Holland.
‘He came from Ajax, next season to United, so he did it step by step, and he is still learning,’ the 30-year-old defender added.
‘You are still learning every game but he is still learning as well I think. Hopefully he will get the time, and he can get to show the players, directors, everybody and the fans that he is the guy and of course he needs results.
‘As a gaffer you need results and hopefully they will come to him but I think it will be fine actually.’
In their final home game of the season, Manchester United beat Brentford 3-0 on Monday night. Ralf Rangnick’s side finish the season with away games against Brighton and Crystal Palace.
Ten Hag’s Ajax, meanwhile, are four points clear at the top of the Eredivisie table with three league games remaining.
