Bruno Fernandes has named James Garner as the academy product he is looking forward to playing alongside the most.
Garner made his senior United debut in 2019 but has developed into a promising young midfielder away from Old Trafford with spells on loan at and Nottingham Forest.
The 21-year-old has spent the last year at the City Ground with Forest, re-joining the club on loan until the end of the season last summer after extending his contract with United.
Midfield is expected to be an area United strengthen in the summer transfer window but Garner has been making a strong case for himself away on loan, shining in Forest’s run which included wins over and Leicester City.
Recent reports have suggested United could consider selling the young midfielder to Leeds United during the summer.
Fernandes however is hoping to link up with him in the near future.
Celebrating signing a new four-year deal at Old Trafford on Friday, Fernandes hosted a Twitter Q&A, taking questions from fans.
One fan asked which youngster he is really looking forward to playing alongside – with Garner his response.
It isn’t the first time Fernandes has sung the praises of Garner. During United’s pre-season preparations, the Portugal international named him and Anthony Elanga among the young players who had impressed him at the club.
‘Jimmy Garner, I think is a really good player, I really like him and the way he kicks the ball. He’s really aggressive off the ball too,’ Fernandes said last August.
‘Elanga was already playing with us and this pre-season he has been brilliant. He’s a nice kid, works hard and is really humble and I think he’s deserving of everything that’s happening to him.
‘I see a brilliant future for him and Jimmy too, and also for all the other kids.’
