told he didn’t deserve his Man of the Match award after ’s 3-0 victory over on Sunday.

Garnacho opened the scoring in the third minute at Goodison Park .

United were fortunate not to concede before the break as Everton battled back but Erik ten Hag’s side then doubled their lead in the 56th minute through Marcus Rashford’s penalty.

Anthony Martial wrapped up the win for the visitors with a goal with 15 minutes remaining, while the victory leaves Ten Hag’s men sixth in the Premier League and just six points behind leaders Arsenal.

Garnacho was handed the Man of the Match award for his brilliant goal, although Gary Neville acknowledged during his commentary for Sky Sports that Kobbie Mainoo should have received the recognition for his superb performance at the heart of United’s midfield.

And when asked to present the award to Garnacho after the game, Fernandes said: ‘I don’t think he deserves but okay.’

Speaking about Garnacho’s overall performance, Fernandes added: ‘I’ll give him a good note just for the goal. But that’s because he knows I have big expectations for him.

‘He’s not a great player yet, but he has a big future ahead. We expect a lot from him. He knows that, even more from me. I’ll always be behind him asking for more. Amazing goal though.’

When asked in a separate interview about Mainoo’s display, Fernandes told BBC’s Match of the Day: ‘Great game, for me man of the match, a great performance and secure on the ball and never puts a foot wrong.

‘He is always ready to help, for his age he has too much quality.

‘He sees the play before and did so many good things today he was secure on the ball.’
