Brentford endured a bad night out at Brighton on Wednesday night, losing the game 2-1 and also losing Bryan Mbeumo to an ankle injury.

The Cameroon international has been a key player for the Bees this season, scoring seven goals, including from the penalty spot against the Seagulls on Wednesday.

That goal saw the visitors take the lead, but Pascal Gross equalised before teenager Jack Hinshelwood gave Brighton the three points.

Bees boss Thomas Frank will be without the forward after he limped out of the game at the Amex, but it is unclear for how long at this stage.

‘He twisted his ankle,’ said Frank of his striker. ‘We don’t know exactly bad it is; we will assess him tomorrow.

‘It’s another one on the list but that happens; another player may now need to step up.

‘But let’s not get too carried away. Let’s wait and see how good or bad it is.’

He added: ‘It is what it is, injuries are a part of football. We will find a solution and go again.’

Mbeumo joins a long list of Brentford players on the injury list, including Rico Henry. Aaron Hickey, Kevin Schade, Kristoffer Ajer and Nathan Collins, while Ivan Toney remains banned.

Asked if he’s ever experienced anything like this injury crisis before, Frank said: ‘Nope, it’s by far the most unlucky I’ve felt in my entire football career. But this happens – no complaints, we’ll find another solution.’

Frank gave an honest assessment of his team’s performance on the south coast in midweek, admitting that a defeat was a fair result.

‘I think it was a fairly even game. in terms of chances. Brighton slightly on top – in the end a fair enough win,’ said the Dane.

‘Tight game in many ways, we don’t give a lot away. I think going here we know Brighton is a good team. So are we but with the amount of injuries the boys gave everything. It could have been a draw but tonight it wasn’t.’
