manager Carlo Ancelotti was still testing positive for Covid over the weekend and remains a doubt for the trip to this week until he returns a negative test.
The 62-year-old tested positive last Wednesday after feeling some symptoms of the virus, but was reportedly feeling fine again by the weekend.
However, he had not returned a negative test in time for the La Liga trip to Celta Vigo on Saturday, with Real Madrid winning 2-1 without him.
Spanish publication report that there is no guarantee Ancelotti will be in when Real take on Chelsea on Wednesday until he can test negative for Covid.
In his stead would be coach Abian Perdomo, Ancelotti’s son Davide and goalkeeping coach Luis Llopis.
Real Madrid’s win at Celta Vigo – which came thanks to a Karim Benzema brace – leaves them top of the La Liga table by 12 points from Barcelona, although Xavi’s side have a game in hand.
Chelsea are coming into the clash at Stamford Bridge off a shock 4-1 defeat to Brentford at home on Saturday.
Blues boss Thomas Tuchel insisted that the strange loss to the Bees had nothing to do with Real Madrid looming large on the horizon.
‘It is not about Real Madrid,’ Tuchel said. ‘It is about us. It is one day off now and on Monday we start again.
‘We selected this team because we thought it was the best team for Brentford. We didn’t have half an eye or one per cent of an eye on Real Madrid.’
