Liverpool have confirmed that they have recalled Fabio Carvalho from his loan spell at RB Leipzig.

But he is not expected to be back at Anfield for too long, with many clubs, including several from the Championship, reportedly interested in his services.

Carvalho joined Liverpool from Fulham in 2022 in a deal worth up to £7.7million, but found opportunities limited under and ended up moving to the Bundesliga for this season.

However, the 21-year-old made just 15 appearances for Leipzig, and only three of them starts, totalling just 360 minutes of football.

Given his lack of game time, it was reported in early December that Liverpool were considering recalling him and on the plug was officially pulled.

Despite not featuring much at top-flight level, it is recognised that the attacking midfielder/winger has great potential and the Reds are now weighing up what to do with him.

The most likely option is he will be sent out on loan again and already there is plenty of interest in the U21 star, with reporting that are after his signature.

The Foxes are eight points clear at the top of the Championship and fully expected to make an immediate return to the .

But they are not the only promotion-seeking side keen on Carvalho, with claiming that Southampton are also in the race, but Liverpool will only loan their starlet out if frequent game time is assured.

Going into 2024, the Saints are third in the table, just three points off Ipswich Town and six clear of fourth-placed Leeds United.

Carvalho already has good experience of the Championship having been named in the 2021/22 PFA Team of the Year after scoring 10 goals in 36 appearances for Fulham as they won the title.

Liverpool meanwhile go into the new year top of the Premier League after , and they have the chance to extend their lead on New Year’s Day when they host Newcastle.
