For the fourth year running will hold no in-person end-of-season awards night after a hugely disappointing campaign in which they will finish in the bottom half of the table.

The Blues have endured a miserable season in which they have had four different head coaches: , , and now current incumbent Frank Lampard.

With two matches left of the campaign – away to Manchester United and then home to Newcastle – Chelsea cannot finish any higher than 11th place in the Premier League.

If results go against them, the west Londoners could even finish as low as 14th, while they will definitely register their lowest-ever points total.

Chelsea were also knocked out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup in the third rounds and were thumped 4-0 on aggregate by Real Madrid in the Champions League.

As such, are reporting that Chelsea have decided against holding their end-of-season awards night and will instead hand out various awards before their final match at Stamford Bridge against Newcastle on Sunday.

There are gongs for Player of the Season, Academy Player of the Season and Goal of the Season, but there will be no fancy night out.

The end-of-season awards night used to be a prominent date on the Chelsea calendar previously, but it will now be four years since the ceremony was last held.

The coronavirus pandemic scuppered plans in 2020 and 2021, while the event was called off last year due to the sanctions imposed upon previous owner Roman Abramovich prior to his sale of the club.

Mason Mount – who is if he does not sign a new contract – has won Chelsea’s Player of the Year award in the last two seasons but is expected to be dethroned by Thiago Silva this year, with supporters voting for the winner.

The women’s Chelsea side, in contrast, have enjoyed a rather more successful campaign and will get an end-of-season awards night.

Emma Hayes’ team likely only need a point from their final match of the season against bottom-of-the-table Reading to secure the WSL title while they have already secured the FA Cup.

Chelsea’s owners will be hoping the looming appointment of Mauricio Pochettino can turn around the fortunes of the men’s team, though it is clear a massive rebuild is required in west London.
