However the sale will not be confirmed until Chelsea have made a defensive transfer of their own, with Tuchel desperate to add a left-sided centre-back to his squad.

While the club have signed Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly, they have also been dealt several huge blows this transfer window, with Matthijs de Ligt opting to join Bayern Munich from Juventus, while Nathan Ake and Presnel Kimpembe chose to stay at Manchester City and PSG respectively.

They are currently linked with Brighton’s Marc Cucurella, who has reportedly agreed personal terms and could move to Stamford Bridge with young Levi Colwill heading the other way, while Leicester’s Wesley Fofana is also on their radar.

Tuchel is also after a new right-wing-back to support Reece James, with Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters and Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries linked.
