Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has urged the Blues to give Graham Potter time to have an impact as manager at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues boss going through a difficult period.

The Englishman has only been in charge since September when he moved to west from Brighton but he is already under a lot of pressure after numerous disappointing results.

After a decent start, Chelsea went into the break having lost three Premier League games on the spin. They returned by beating Bournemouth at home, but have since drawn with Nottingham Forest and lost to in both the Premier League and .

In the second of those defeats on Sunday night some Chelsea fans were chanting the name of previous manager Thomas Tuchel, with the pressure already piling on Potter in his first job with an elite club.

However, Hasselbaink, who scored 87 goals for the Blues from 2000-04, thinks Potter deserves plenty more time to prove himself and overcome problems at Stamford Bridge that he inherited.

‘It’s way too premature for fans to be calling for to leave and it’s not fair,’ Hasselbaink told .

‘He’s inherited this squad and the problems at Chelsea were already here before Potter became manager. Potter needs to be given time, the fans need to be patient and let somebody do the job.

‘Chelsea do need results, that’s the only problem at the moment. You can lose at home against Man City and play well, but you can’t draw against Nottingham Forest and play the way they did. That’s the problem.’

Potter will hope to get back to winning ways on Thursday when Chelsea go to Fulham in the Premier League before hosting Crystal Palace three days later.
