Chelsea made late attempt to hijack Richarlison’s move to Tottenham

failed with a late attempt to hijack Richarlison’s transfer from to Tottenham.

Spurs are close to completing the signing of the Brazil international forward of after agreeing a deal with Everton late on Wednesday night, the PA news agency understands.

The 25-year-old is set to undergo a medical overseas, as Spurs bid to wrap up a transfer that could top £50million.

Richarlison is now in line to follow Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic and as Tottenham’s fourth summer signing.

Tottenham are said to have been seeking a forward who can play right across the frontline for some time, with the north Londoners confident the 25-year-old Richarlison fits that bill.

Richarlison notched 53 goals in 152 games in four years at Everton, joining the Toffees in 2018 after a year at Watford.

Tottenham have already heavily backed Antonio Conte in this summer window after adding Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski in January.

Chelsea meanwhile, according to , have been left frustrated in their attempts to strengthen their forward line.

The Blues are expected to accelerate their summer rebuilding project now Romelu Lukaku’s acrimonious return to Inter on loan as has been confirmed.

With Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech all potentially surplus to requirements, Chelsea could begin next season with a totally new-look forward line.

A deal for Manchester City star Raheem Sterling is in the pipeline, with the England international keen on a move to Stamford Bridge and a return to London.

Chelsea were, however, also interested in Richarlison but their attempts to persuade him to ditch Tottenham at the last minute fell on deaf ears.

Tuchel is also hopeful of signing Raphinha from Leeds with Chelsea reported to have agreed a fee earlier this week.

But the former Rennes winger appears to be holding out for a move to Barcelona with his agent, former Chelsea star Deco, still locked in negotiations with Barcelona.
