Chelsea set to back new boss Graham Potter with two January signings

New manager is set to have his squad bolstered with new signings in the January transfer window, according to reports.

Potter has been drafted in to replace , who was relieved of his duties at Stamford Bridge earlier this week.

Tuchel joined the club in early 2021 and delivered a triumph, as well as UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup trophies.

But former Brighton boss Potter has been tasked with managing the Blues as they look to improve on their current league position of sixth.

According to the , the club will look to grant Potter a new midfielder when the January transfer window opens.

The Blues are light on options in the middle of the park as N’Golo Kante continues to struggle with injuries.

Both Kante and Jorginho are out of contract next summer, while deadline day signing Denis Zakaria’s loan deal expires at the end of the season.

Chelsea had a £43million bid for Ajax’s Edson Alvarez rejected in the final week of the transfer window, but the midfielder could be a target for January.

The report states that Chelsea could also look to sign a backup goalkeeper in the winter window.

Potter started the season well with Brighton, leading them to fourth place in the Premier League table.

In Europe, Potter will be looking for his new team to get their first win in the Champions League this season after Tuchel’s side lost 1-0 to Dinamo Zagreb in midweek.
