Chelsea should accept £70million for Mason Mount because he ‘hasn’t been the same’ since left the club.

That’s according to former Blues defender Glen Johnson, who believes the midfielder would be a brilliant signing for .

Mount is out of favour at Stamford Bridge and is currently in a stand-off with the club over a new deal.

The midfielder’s current contract expires at the end of the 2023/24 season and Mount rejected Chelsea’s last offer, which he deemed too low.

Mount’s situation has alerted clubs in the Premier League, with Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United all credited with an interest in the England midfielder.

But Tuchel’s appointment at Bayern Munich has raised the possibility that Mount could move to Germany, given the former Chelsea coach’s admiration for the midfielder during his time at Stamford Bridge.

And Johnson says that Chelsea should accept a figure of around £70m – if they can get it – to let Mount leave for Germany.

‘ would be brilliant at Bayern – should accept £70m for him,’ Johnson told .

‘I actually think he would be brilliant at Bayern and you could understand why Tuchel wants him because he got him playing his best football for sure. Everything that went well at Chelsea whilst Tuchel was there, Mason Mount was right at the heart of it.

‘He hasn’t had that same impact since, so you could understand why they would want to do business together again and link back up. I think he is more than good enough to play at that level, I really like him. At the moment, Chelsea should take £70m because he hasn’t been the same Mason Mount and Chelsea may need to take the money after all their signings.

‘It also depends on who the next manager is because he may be able to bounce back if there is a top manager like Tuchel, who wants to bring in other top players to play alongside him. On the other hand, you could totally understand why interest from a club like Bayern and a manager like Tuchel would make his head turn – that was when he was playing his best.’

Despite Mount’s willingness to stay at Stamford Bridge, he looks increasingly likely to leave the club.

A move to Anfield appeals to Mount and Jurgen Klopp wants to add the playmaker’s energy and tactical flexibility to his squad.

However, it’s not clear whether Chelsea would sanction Mount joining a Premier League rival.
