Former Premier League forward Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed that Christian Eriksen is too good for amid the transfer speculation surrounding the attacking midfielder.
Eriksen’s short-term contract with Brentford is nearly up and there is plenty of talk about where the Danish international will move to next, with former club Tottenham, Brentford, United, Newcastle and Leicester all rumoured to be interested in his services.
The highly rated playmaker certainly has a lot of options, but Agbonlahor thinks that United in their current state are beneath the 30-year-old.
‘I think he’d make every team better,’ the former man told .
‘Imagine playing with him, the runs you could make, he’d find you with his passing.
‘I’m sure he’s got so many options and there’s talk about Manchester United, but I don’t know about that. I think he can do better than United.’
Eriksen joined Tottenham from Ajax in 2013 and went onto establish himself as one of the best playmakers in the Premier League, scoring 69 goals and making 90 assists in 305 appearances for the club.
He formed lethal partnerships will fellow Spurs attackers Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli and was an integral part of his side’s fantastic run under Mauricio Pochettino that culminated with reaching the Champions League final in 2019.
Soon after however, he pushed for a move away from North London, eventually heading to Inter Milan where he won Serie A but failed to have the same impact that he had had in England.
For that reason, Agbonlahor is also not sure if the player would want to return to the Lilywhites, adding: ‘I think he’s got that relationship with [Antonio] Conte hasn’t he when he was manager of Inter Milan so that’s an option for him.
‘But maybe he won’t want to go back to a club that he’s already been at. The way he left as well wasn’t great.’
At last summer’s Euros, Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening game against Finland, and while he thankfully recovered, it was thought that he would never play football again.
But last season he signed with Brentford and despite lacking is match fitness and sharpness, showed that he had not lost his magic touch, scoring once and assisting four times in just 11 games, and attracting the interest of other Premier League sides.
