may take a decision over his future out of Erik ten Hag’s hands by deciding to leave the club before the Dutchman arrives.
The 37-year-old returned to United for a fee of £12million last summer, signing an initial two-year deal with the Red Devils with the option of a further 12 months.
Ronaldo’s scored 24 goals in all competitions so far this term but he’s been accused of hindering the side, with much of the focus on him instead of the collective.
The striker would not appear an ideal fit for Ten Hag’s philosophy, with the Dutchman keen to press high with nimble and flexible forwards.
Ten Hag plans on speaking to every member of the squad before making a decision on who stays and who goes, and each player will be given a chance to stake their claim.
But claim Ronaldo could take that decision away from Ten Hag as he’s considering his future at the club.
The striker is angered by United’s failure to finish in the top four and he doesn’t want to risk ending his career without playing in the Champions League again.
Ten Hag already plans on signing a centre-back, a right-back, a central midfielder and at least one forward this summer.
Ronaldo’s exit could cause even more disruption, with Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani all set to leave at the end of their deals.
