Benfica striker has agreed personal terms with Liverpool.

Liverpool remain in talks with the Portuguese giants over a fee for the 22-year-old, with Benfica are looking to do a deal for around €100million (£85m).

Manchester United are also eager to sign the Uruguay international but now report Nunez has decided on a move to Anfield.

The move will likely see Liverpool break their transfer record having paid £75million to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in 2017.

The report adds that Benfica will be seeking around €80m guaranteed with the remaining €20million to come in performance related add-ons.

Nunez, who scored 36 goals in 34 goals in 41 appearances last season, is expected to come in and replace Sadio Mane with the Senegal international now expected to join Bayern Munich this summer.

The Reds are reluctantly willing to let Mane leave after six years of stellar service, but only once Bayern meet their valuation.

An offer of £30million was flatly rejected earlier this week with high-ranking Liverpool officials branding the offer a ‘joke’ given it comprised of several likely unattainable bonus clauses.

The Premier League runners up with allow Mane to leave however once Bayern submit a bid of £40million.

United meanwhile had hoped to rival Liverpool for Nunez’s signature but appear to have lost out.

Ten Hag is eager for the club to sign a young forward this summer with 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo the team’s only consistent source of goals last season.

But the club will now likely have to turn elsewhere, with Nunez said to be eager to play in the Champions League next season.
