David Gill reveals biggest regret of his Manchester United career alongside Sir Alex Ferguson

David Gill says the one ‘regret’ he has from his time at was the major fallout between and Sir .

Gill formed an exceptional partnership with Ferguson, acting as CEO during the Scot’s latter years at Old Trafford.

He stood down in 2013, the same that Ferguson ended his 26 years at Old Trafford.

Gill and Ferguson were together during the most successful period of the club’s history.

But the former United CEO says he regrets how Keane and Ferguson fell out before the Irishman’s departure in November 2005.

‘I’ve said this to Sir Alex [Ferguson],’ Gill told Rio Ferdinand on the

‘One of my only regrets is that they were so great for each other, and to see them fallout – I think it’s a pity.

‘I obviously feel that. He was a fantastic captain, and for that [Ferguson/Keane relationship] to break down, was very difficult.

‘You’ve got two winning and highly motivated individuals of their own mind, and it’s come to that. We should celebrate what  did for the team. He was fantastic for many, many years.’
