David Seaman has made his prediction for the crucial clash between and at St James’ Park.
Having led the title race for much of the season, Arsenal suddenly find themselves one point behind , who also have a game in hand.
The Gunners have enjoyed their best campaign for some time but a wobble over the past month has allowed Man City to reclaim top spot with just a few games remaining.
Arsenal blew two-goal leads against Liverpool and West Ham before . Mikel Arteta’s side were then blown away by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Given Man City’s form and the state of the title race, Arsenal cannot afford to drop many more points as they chase a first league title since 2004.
But Seaman insists his former club face a ‘really tough game’ as they prepare to take on in-form Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday.
Newcastle have enjoyed a brilliant season under Eddie Howe, losing just four of their 33 league games to climb to third in the Premier League.
The Magpies look set to make a long-awaited return to the Champions League next season and Seaman expects Newcastle to take points from Arsenal this weekend.
‘This was always going to be a really tough game,’ he said on the podcast. ‘Going to St James’ Park, especially now, is mega hard.
‘It’s going to be difficult for Arsenal but they have got to end this season on a high. They need to get back to what we were used to, playing well and getting results.
‘If they go to Newcastle and get a result there they will shut a lot of people up.
‘But it’s a tough, tough game so I’m going to go for a 1-1 draw. I think Arsenal fans would be happy with that.’
Arsenal were held to a goalless draw by Newcastle United in the reverse fixture at the Emirates Stadium in January.
