David Seaman has revealed he sent a reassuring message to Arsenal goalkeeper after he conceded a goal from the halfway line.

Ramsdale endured a difficult game last Thursday night as Arsenal crashed out of the to .

After drawing the first-leg 2-2, Granit Xhaka fired the Gunners into an early lead at the Emirates only for Pedro Goncalves to score one of the goals of the season to level the tie.

The Portuguese star picked the ball up on the halfway line and proceeded to shoot from 46-yards out with Ramsdale off his line and unable to get back in time to prevent the goal.

Though the England keeper later made amends with a fine save to deny former Tottenham player Marcus Edwards, he is also failed to save a single penalty as Sporting won the shootout 5-3 to progress to the quarter-finals.

The embarrassment of conceding from the halfway line is a feeling Seaman knows all to well about, having done so against ex-Spurs star Nayim in the dying minutes of Arsenal’s UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup final defeat to Real Zaragoza in 1995.

‘We have to talk about the European game because there was a goal scored that was a bit further out than the one I let in,’ the legendary Gunners keeper said on the .

‘Oh my god I thought there were going to be so many replays of Nayim now and everything! I was like, “here we go”.

‘I text Aaron afterwards and I put, “It happens to the best of us mate, but it could’ve been worse, it could’ve been the ex-Tottenham player who was playing who scored the goal”.’

This game has been a small blemish on an otherwise outstanding campaign for Ramsdale who moved to Arsenal from Sheffield United in 2021 for £25million.

The 24-year-old is currently leading the race for the Premier League Golden Glove having kept 12 clean sheets and conceded just 26 goals in 28 games so far, with his efforts helping the Gunners go eight points clear at the top of the table.

Ramsdale is currently on international duty where he’ll hope to usurp Jordan Pickford as the Three Lions’ No.1 ahead of the start of their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.

He’ll next be in action for his club on 1st April when Arsenal host Leeds.
