Dimitar Berbatov is backing his former side Tottenham Hotspur to beat Arsenal in the huge north London derby in the Premier League on Thursday night.

Spurs could be out of the battle for fourth by the end of Thursday if they are to lose to their bitter local rivals.

The Gunners go into the match fourth, one place and four points ahead of Tottenham with three games to play.

Even with a victory for Antonio Conte’s men, Mikel Arteta’s side would remain in control of the race to fourth, but it would be very spicy indeed ahead of the final two games of the season.

Berbatov reckons this will come to pass, impressed by Spurs drawing 1-1 with Liverpool last time out, and although he reckons the game will be tight, Tottenham will prevail.

‘I was really happy with Spurs’ performance in the 1-1 against Liverpool and I think they’re going to beat in the north derby on Thursday,’ Berbatov told .

‘’s men played good football at Anfield and it was a good result against a Liverpool team that had been on an extraordinary winning run. Now, against Arsenal it’s going to be a good game, as it usually is in the derby.’

Tottenham have had some seriously disappointing results this season, but have beaten the champions twice and have avoided defeat against Liverpool.

Berbatov reckons this shows the potential of the side and the Bulgarian thinks they are improving as the season goes on.

‘Spurs have done the double over Man City and they are unbeaten against Liverpool, they have great numbers and this can give them confidence going into the game against Arsenal,’ said Berbatov.

‘Spurs are gradually improving in every game. The new players have slotted in comfortably. So in my opinion, of course they can beat Arsenal, but also Arsenal can beat Spurs. It’s a two way street in this one.

‘Everybody wants to play Champions League football, Spurs have the chance and if they play like the way they have been doing then they deserve to be in the top four. They have to beat Arsenal.’
