insists have not made an approach to sign former goalkeeper David de Gea.
Newcastle have been dealt a blow as Nick Pope has been ruled out for at least four month .
De Gea, meanwhile, remains a free agent after leaving United in the summer transfer window when his contract expired.
It’s understood that the Spaniard would be open to a return to the Premier League in January but Howe has suggested that Newcastle are yet to make a move.
‘I’ve seen a lot of media headlines regarding goalkeepers and other players,’ Howe said.
‘We have not made any enquiries. If we were to recruit now we’d be recruiting in every area on the pitch.
‘It’s a chance for the other keepers to consolidate their positions.’
When asked about Pope’s situation, Howe said: ‘He’s had a couple of appointments to see specialists. I am awaiting final news on what will happen.
‘He will be operated on. It will be about four months. We were fearing the worst. He’s been in the best form since he has been at the football club.
‘He is naturally down. Nick had the Euros ahead of him and there is still a chance for him. His main determination is to come back with us.’
Howe also offered his backing to Martin Dubravka, who is expected to deputise for Pope.
‘We really believe in Martin,’ said Howe.
‘Martin is a high class goalkeeper, very good with his feet and distribution.’
