Emmanuel Petit says must leave this summer but has urged the Frenchman to avoid a move to rivals Manchester City.

Pogba, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season and is set to depart United after six years at the club.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Man City, with both clubs interested in securing his services on a free transfer.

Ex-Arsenal midfielder Petit reckons Pogba is right to leave United but has warned him off signing for their local rivals.

Speaking to, he said: ‘He must not stay at Manchester United in the interest of himself and Manchester United. I think his future is not at Manchester United.

‘His future for me is not at Manchester City at all. There are big rumours here in France surrounding Paris Saint-Germain, so I don’t know what he wants to do.

‘But it’s probably to sign a big contract, he wants to sign a three or four-year contract, but he needs to regain his form.

‘He has not been the same player for a long time now. It’s been a very difficult season for him and Manchester United.

‘I think the love-story has ended at Old Trafford. He must leave and I would like to see him stay in the Premier League, the best league in the world.

‘I am not sure he will stay in the Premier League though, I’m pretty sure he will leave England. This is my opinion, I may be wrong but this is my feeling.’

After being signed for over £90million back in 2016, Pogba has failed to leave up to the heights expected of him at Old Trafford.

A strong first season at the club saw him win the Europa League and the EFL Cup but he has not lifted silverware with the Manchester giants since.

He has fallen out of favour this season, making just 27 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions.

With United reportedly heading down a younger approach to recruitment, Pogba is set to leave this summer alongside Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani.

Regarding a replacement for Pogba, incoming manager Erik ten Hag is believed to be targeting West Ham’s Declan Rice and Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips.
