The Red Devils’ problems at left-back continue as Reguilon is still out with a hamstring problem, as and Tyrell Malacia are also sidelined through injury.

Erik ten Hag is dealing with a number of fitness issues in defence, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Lisandro Martinez also out of action.

However, the Dutchman confirmed at a press conference on Friday that Antony is likely to be ready to start this weekend after coming off the bench in the Champions League in midweek.

The Brazil international had been out of the side since 23 August, placed on a mutual leave of absence  Antony has strongly denied all accusations – including those made by two further women.

Speaking on Friday, Ten Hag said: ‘Not for tomorrow [Reguilon]. I think he’s [Antony] ready for a start.’

Jadon Sancho remains unavailable for selection as the feud between manager and winger continues, while Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo are also out injured.

Injuries and other selection problems have certainly not helped Ten Hag’s cause of late, with United struggling for results domestically and in Europe, but the former Ajax manager says it is consistency his team have been lacking.

‘Consistency,’ he said of his side’s problem. ‘That is the problem we are struggling with. In parts of the games, in big parts, we do a lot of things right, but we have moments where we struggle and in such moments we can’t survive.

‘We need to do the right things, be consistent and do it like before, so definitely you can mark such a moment like when we score or concede a goal. We have to step up.’
