Erik ten Hag described Antony as the ‘missing link’ after the Brazilian’s thrilling debut in ’s win against Arsenal.
The 21-year-old was handed a surprise start against the Gunners, having trained with his team-mates just twice since his arrival from .
The Brazilian joined the club on Wednesday after United agreed a £84m deal with Ajax for the winger.
But Antony rewarded his manager’s faith in him by scoring in the first half, when he finished off a fine team move to put his side ahead.
United backed Ten Hag’s desire to sign Antony, despite feeling they were paying over the odds.
But Ten Hag is clearly delighted to have the winger in his ranks, describing him as the ‘missing link’ after his side’s fourth win in a row.
‘I think we have all seen what a threat is. His speed and creativity, I think, can be a real threat in the Premier League,’ said Ten Hag.
‘We missed a player on the right wing, because all the players who can play there, like , like , they prefer more the centre or the left side.
‘Now we have the one who can play really well over on the right wing. That was a missing link.
‘Today, his first performance here, he did well but I think he can step up.
‘I know him from Amsterdam and I know this is a different league, but there is potential and he will be even more of a threat to opponents than he was today.
‘But I would say, today already, it was a great goal.’
