Erik ten Hag rates Marcus Rashford’s performance on return for Manchester United at Wolves

was impressed with ’s performance as he returned to the team in a dramatic 4-3 win at Wolves on Thursday night.

He has since been fined two weeks’ wages, but the club and player are keen to put the matter behind them as Rashford was picked in the starting XI at Molineux.

The forward quickly repaid Ten Hag’s faith in him by putting the Red Devils ahead after just five minutes of the match.

Manchester United led 2-0 and 3-1, looking pretty comfortable before two late goals from Max Kilman and Pedro Neto appeared to have rescued a point for Wolves.

However, Kobbie Mainoo’s 97th minute winner sent the travelling fans home happy and Ten Hag generally pleased with his team, despite their naivety late on.

He also liked what he saw from Rashford, believing he is working well with Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho in the front three.

‘I think the whole team played very good and Rashy as well, but we know that,’ Ten Hag said when asked of Rashford’s performance.

‘We see the last games, coming about in the front line. If they get the service from the back, they are a threat, I think, for every opposition.’

Asked by TNT Sports if Rashford needed his goal after a turbulent few days, the manager said: ‘Sure. But it was a fantastic team goal. We scored more such goals from building up. Many players involved, get it switched and score a great goal.

‘I think what you see consistently is the last games when he has three goals and I think two assists in I think three or four matches.’
