is ready to switch Harry Maguire’s usual position in a desperate bid to help the defender to save his career.
The centre-back is fighting to survive at Old Trafford after a difficult season, in which his position as captain and indeed as a United player has come under intense scrutiny.
Maguire faces an uncertain future at the club, with Ten Hag keen on signing a centre-back this summer.
But the Telegraph claim Maguire’s future has not yet been decided and the Dutchman will give him a chance to reverse his fortunes at the club.
It’s claimed that Ten Hag feels Maguire could benefit from shifting position in defence to play as a right-sided centre-back.
Maguire is played as a left-sided centre-back in order to showcase his passing skills and the position requires his partner to sweep up from behind.
But Ten Hag reportedly feels Maguire could benefit from playing from the right, where he can take a more measured role in the defence and won’t be forced to play on the front foot.
Maguire often feels the need to step out from defence but when he loses his duel United are caught on the counter, which means the side cannot keep pressure on their opponents in their half.
