will not appeal ’s red card with Erik ten Hag not convinced the club ‘have a chance’ overturning the decision.
The Brazil international was shown a straight red card during a melee in the second-half of United’s 2-1 win over on Saturday.
Casemiro appeared to grab Will Hughes by the neck although another camera angle suggested he had grabbed the Palace midfielder by his shirt collar.
After the incident was reviewed by VAR, referee Andre Marriner showed the United star a straight red for violent conduct, earning him a three game ban.
on Sunday 19 February.
United could have appealed the red card but failure on that front could potentially see the FA extend the ban if they deem it ‘frivolous’, potentially ruling him out of the EFL Cup final against Newcastle United.
While ten Hag maintains it was still the incorrect decision to send off his player, United will not take further action to have it overturned.
‘Consider, yeah,’ ten Hag said at a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s home meeting with Leeds.
‘Still it’s for me not the right decision but I don’t think we have a chance in a legal process.’
On Casemiro’s absence, he added: ‘I always have to play with the players who are available and we have a squad, we have many good players in our squad who are also not playing in the starting XI and I have to do it. After a game I can’t say Casemiro is not there.’
Former United defender , unconvinced the FA would take action.
‘When you freeze it, it doesn’t look great because it looks like he’s strangling him,’ Neville said on his Sky Sports Podcast. ‘He’ll never get off, in fact it would be too big a risk to appeal as the FA could increase it.
‘Man United won’t appeal it. They’ve got two games against Leeds and one against Leicester, I think they will think they can get through those three games without him.
‘Ten Hag will be disappointed though because it’s been a bit stop-start with Casemiro and he’s been their most important player. He’s held them together in midfield and Eriksen is out as well.
‘They will be without him for three games. I don’t actually think he’s got him around the neck but it does look like that so they won’t appeal it.’
