Erik ten Hag refused to answer questions about his talks with .
The head coach is United’s first-choice candidate to replace at the end of the season, although he is yet to reach an agreement following extensive negotiations.
Ajax are in the driving seat to win the Eredivisie title this season after their 2-1 win over Sparta Rotterdam on Saturday evening put them seven points clear at the top of the table.
Ten Hag is adamant that he will not speak out the prospect of joining United during the closing stages of Ajax’s campaign and even threatened to terminate an interview after a reporter pressed him on a potential move to the Premier League.
‘We are busy with training and with the matches,’ Ten Hag told ESPN.
‘That way you keep the focus on it. I want to talk about the game and not about other things and whether or not I’ve had conversations. I won’t comment on rumours.’
When it was put to him that the rumours about his links with United are getting stronger, Ten Hag replied: ‘Questions about the game or I am going inside.’
When asked by Dutch broadcaster NOS if he is in talks with United Ten Hag replied: ‘I will not tell you whether this is true or not.’
Ten Hag offered a similar response in his post-match press conference when asked about the United links.
‘I am focused on the title race and the cup final,’ he said.
And when it was put to him that if the rumours are true, it would mean he is not fully focused on Ajax, Ten Hag replied: ‘I have nothing else to say about it.’
