Erik ten Hag has informed that will not be part of his plans at Old Trafford next season.
Ten Hag has agreed a deal in principle to become United’s new permanent manager this summer with major changes expected at the club.
As many as 10 players could leave with the boss requesting control over United’s transfer dealings and the selection of his backroom staff during negotiations with the Premier League side.
, Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard are among the high-profile names expected to move on but now report ten Hag has given the greenlight for Ronaldo to leave.
The Portuguese star sealed an emotional return to Manchester last summer, signing a two-year deal with the option of a third.
The 37-year-old has produced some more memorable moments during his second stint at the club.
But with United heading towards a fifth consecutive season without a trophy and with Champions League qualification in severe doubt, he is said to be considering his future.
A decision over his future may have already been made however with ten Hag telling United chiefs that Ronaldo’s age and ‘luxury status’ ensures he will not be part of his plans, with the Dutchman keen to implement a new style of play this summer.
Ronaldo is United’s top scorer this season with 18 goals but questions over his work rate and ability to press the opposition has raised questions over his suitability to work under ten Hag.
United have not consulted Ronaldo over the appointment of the 52-year-old after the Portuguese reportedly discouraged the club from making a move for Antonio Conte earlier in the season.
