are looking to sign Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund alongside this summer, according to reports.
has made it clear that United will be in the market for a new striker in the upcoming transfer window and the striker is understood to be the club’s top target.
However, reports that Ten Hag is also keen to sign ‘an up-and-coming forward’ to bolster his attacking options.
The report claims that Hojlund is on United’s shortlist and could be available for around £40 million this summer.
Hojlund joined Atalanta in a €17m (£15m) deal from Strum Graz last August and the 20-year-old has scored eight goals in his first season in Italy.
The 6ft 3in forward has also impressed at international level, scoring five goals in four appearances for Denmark so far.
Speaking last month, Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini admitted that the Serie A club could struggle to keep Hojlund for another season.
‘From the technical standpoint and in other areas, I have seen very few strikers who are as strong as him at 20 years old,’ Gasperini said.
‘He has considerable room for improvement, for instance in the air, inside the box, or with the final pass.
‘Nowadays, once this type of player emerges, the top European clubs generally swoop in with offers that are hard to turn down for a team like Atalanta.’
Meanwhile, Ten Hag insists United are ‘working hard in the background’ ahead of the summer transfer window.
‘Of course, we do our job in the background,’ Ten Hag said.
‘But to talk about [it] or [if] we can be concrete and we can present something, we would do it immediately. But in the background, we are working hard.
‘But for now, it’s about games, getting into the Champions League, and then we have an FA Cup [final].
‘For me it’s about, yeah, finance. That there is the money available to do the right things.
‘But first of all, we have to be in the Champions League and be in the top four. That is our focus.’
