has hit back at after the Liverpool defender claimed his side’s trophies ‘mean more’ than those won by .
The two giants, who are first and second in the table, go head-to-head at Anfield on Sunday in a mouth-watering title tussle and, ahead of the contest, Alexander-Arnold decided to fan the flames with some rather choice words.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, he said: ‘We’re up against a machine that’s built to win – that’s the simplest way to describe City and their organisation.
‘Looking back on this era, although they’ve won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs, financially.
‘How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we’ve done it, probably means more to our fans.’
But Haaland has rejected Alexander-Arnold’s comments and says Liverpool have no idea what it feels like to win a treble – as City did last season – though he insists the remarks will have no effect on him or his team-mates ahead of their trip to Anfield.
Haaland looked bemused as the comments were read out to him, telling Sky Sports: ‘If he wants to say that, okay.
‘I’ve been here one year and I won the treble. It was quite a nice feeling, I don’t think he knows exactly this feeling.
‘So, yeah, that’s what I felt last season and it was quite nice, so yeah.’
Asked if the comments will add a little extra spice to Sunday’s match, Haaland continued: ‘They can talk as much as they want – or he can talk as much as he wants.
‘I don’t know why he does that, but I don’t mind.’
On the match itself, he added: ‘It’s going to be a great game. Liverpool are top of the league so they’ve been the best this season so far.
‘We have to try and play at our best.
‘I think City-Liverpool is a really special game in general, so it’s going to be a special game and it’s going to be a really important game.’
