Fabio Carvalho suffered a ‘massive dead leg’ against , according to Liverpool manager , who said it is ‘one of the most painful things you can get.’

The 20-year-old was rewarded for scoring the winner against Newcastle on Wednesday with a start in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Unfortunately for the youngster he was substituted at half-time, replaced by Roberto Firmino, after suffering a heavy contact on above his knee.

The game ended goalless, although it was thoroughly entertaining, with both goalkeepers in fine form and the woodwork being rattled a number of times.

Attention turned to Carvalho after the game, though, who is suffering but is not expected to be out for long at all with the injury.

‘I wasn’t sure but we all think it’s a muscle above the knee with a massive dead leg,’ Klopp told BT Sport.

‘Very painful, if you’ve ever had that before you can say that’s one of the most painful things you can get.

‘It should settle quickly but we will see. We play on Wednesday so I’m not sure about that.’

That game on Wednesday is a trip to Napoli in the Champions League and, although he expects him to be back in training by then, Klopp feels it is unlikely that Thiago Alcantara will return to match fitness in time.

‘Napoli game, I’m not sure, Thiago can probably train on Monday but two days training, so what does that mean?’ Klopp said.

The German believes that his side should have won the game, despite an impressive Everton performance, which included a Conor Coady goal narrowly ruled out for offside.

‘It was an intense game – a game that we feel we lost points,’ said Klopp. ‘Hitting the post and the crossbar, we could’ve done better in this case but we have to accept there were good moments and moments for improvement. We’re still early in the season so we want to improve and we know we can.

‘They had two big moments, with Alisson making a few saves and offside is offside, if we count our opportunities I think we should’ve won the game and unfortunately we didn’t.’
