Jamie Carragher has doubled down on his belief that should never have replaced at .

Potter was sacked on Sunday night, less than seven months after he replaced Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, with the club 11th in the table after a poor home defeat to .

The former Brighton manager won just 12 of his 31 games in charge of the Blues with reports claiming that results, a lack of respect from his players, and not being able to get the most out of their new, highly expensive players cost him his job at Chelsea.

Shortly after the news was announced, for his decision to sack Tuchel and hire Potter.

On Monday night the Liverpool legend explained his thoughts further on Sky Sports, saying: ‘I never felt the relationship between Chelsea and Potter was going to work. That’s not me being clever after the event.

‘You don’t sack Thomas Tuchel, one of the top managers in European football, and replace him with Graham Potter. I’m not trying to be disrespectful but you can look at track record of both managers.

‘The reason why Potter was never a good fit was because Chelsea, alongside Real Madrid, are the most ruthless club in terms of how they deal with managers.

‘It’s okay for Todd Boehly to come in and say we’re going to do it different to Roman Abramovich. But I don’t care what he says.

‘Those supporters for the last 20 years have been brought up on a culture of winning trophies, changing manager and getting Champions League winning managers coming in every two or three years.

‘So they’re chanting at Graham Potter, “You don’t know what you’re doing!”. That’s one of the reasons why he’s gone.

‘The appointment was wrong straight away. I’m not saying Graham Potter can’t work for a big club but this wasn’t the right fit, it is too ruthless at this club. The reason I think it was the right thing to do is when you haven’t got a massive CV behind you or big trophies, you’ve got to hit the ground running.

‘I’ve been very critical of Todd Boehly but I think this is the first decision he’s got right. I get that there were problems between Tuchel and the new owners but they should have just stuck with Tuchel.’

Bruno Saltor will take charge of Chelsea on Tuesday night when they host Liverpool, with former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann the favourite to take the reins at Stamford Bridge.
