Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino has been confirmed as the new manager of Inter Miami, replacing in the role.

The 60-year-old will reunite with and Sergio Busquets as they worked together at Barcelona during Martino’s stint in charge at the Camp Nou from 2013-14.

Neville was sacked earlier in June and is replaced by a man with a wealth of experience, having begun his managerial career back in 1998 and taken charge of the likes of Barca, Argentina, Newell’s Old Boys, Mexico, Paraguay and Atlanta United, winning the MLS Cup with the latter in 2018.

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham said: ‘Tata is a highly respected figure in our sport whose track record speaks for itself.

‘We are confident that his achievements in the game and experience as a head coach will inspire our team and excite our fans and look forward to seeing the impact he will have on and off the field.’

Inter Miami managing owner Jorge Mas added: ‘We are very happy to be able to welcome Tata to Inter Miami. We feel he is a coach who matches our ambitions as a club and we’re optimistic about what we can accomplish together.

‘Tata has coached at the highest levels and we believe that experience will be hugely beneficial to us as we aim to compete for titles here.’

Messi and Busquets are yet to be officially unveiled as Inter Miami players, which is expected to happen on 16 July.

There could still be another Barcelona legend involved as well, with the MLS side linked with a move for Jordi Alba who is available on a free transfer after leaving the Catalan club this summer.
